Preschool Counting Game

By Monica Painter

This preschool counting game is a simple and fun way to introduce preschoolers to numbers and other mathematical concepts. Using an egg carton and dry beans will help your preschooler learn one to one correspondence while counting. The Preschool Counting Game also gives preschoolers a sense of ownership and pride as they learn numbers.

What You Will Need

1 egg cartonBuy at Art.com
1 bag of dry beans
1 piece of paper
Marker

How To Make It

Step 1:
Have preschooler put one bean in one carton, two beans in the next carton, three beans in the next carton, etc.

Step 2:
Encourage preschoolers to count out loud as they go

Step 3:
Draw numbers on a piece of paper to familiarize your preschooler with what each number looks like

Making it More Challenging

Hold up a number and have your preschooler put that amount of beans in a carton

Make this a sorting activity - your preschooler can only put the same type of bean in one carton
