Festive Snow Flurry Floor Mat

By Linette Gerlach

Have your preschooler help you make a fun and festive winter wonderland for your front door. Make this project educational by talking to your preschooler about the colors you’re using.

What You Will Need

A small plain gray or black doormat, or remnant of dark colored carpet, about 2ft by 1 ½ ft
Sponges

White fabric paint

Glitter fabric paint markers, in silver gold, red green or blue

How To Make It

Step 1. Pour the white paint into a container with an opening wide enough to dip the sponges into the paint. Recycled margarine containers work very well.

Step 2. Before you start you can write Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, or Happy Holidays on the rug with the paint markers.

Step 3. Let your preschooler help you sponge patterns on the rug to resemble falling snow, you can also cut out snowflake shapes in sponges to make individual snowflakes on the rug.

When you’re finished lay the rug out to dry. After the rug has completely dried let your preschooler help you lay the rug by the front door. If your preschooler had fun with this project you may want to make another one for grandma’s front door.
