Preschool Collage Theme Poster

By Linette Gerlach

Buy at Art.com Make a collage poster on something your preschooler is interested in. Pick a specific animal, or pick a theme. You can use a full poster board, or cut it in half. If you use the whole board, pick a broader theme to make sure you'll have plenty of material for your collage.

Sample Themes

Under The Sea
Outer Space
My Back Yard
In The Jungle
The Rainforest
The North Pole
My Neighborhood
After Dark

What You Will Need

Help your preschooler find information and pictures about their topic. Try to find interesting books, children's magazines, online photos and articles, stickers, and stamps.

You will also need scissors, glue, and markers or crayons.

How To Do It

Step 1:
Start with a title. You can print the title out on a printer and glue it to the top of the poster board, or write the title by hand.

Step 2:
Find some great photos you can print out or cut out of old magazines. Arrange them on your poster board, leaving room for descriptions and to write about important points. Glue the photos on the board.

Step 3:
Find some important points about your project theme and share them with your preschooler. Write down a couple of their favorite bits of information.

Step 4:
Let your preschooler write a couple bits of information. You may not be able to read what they write, it may just be lines or scribbles, or it may be random letters. Have your preschooler read back to you what they wrote. This type of exercise helps build early writing skills, and helps your preschooler make the connection between letters on a page and reading.

Alternative Ideas

You can also use related stickers and stamps to fill in the poster. Let your preschooler draw a picture on the poster board of their favorite animal or thing related to the project.

When the project board is complete, display it for the proud preschooler to show and explain to others what they've learned. Revisit the collage later and go over what was learned with your preschooler.
