Make Your Own Calendar
By Linette GerlachFor preschoolers the concept of time is very difficult to understand. Here's a great calendar project to help your preschool child begin to understand the passing of time on a calendar. Creating the days of the week and the months will help your preschooler get familiar with calendars and the information they give us. When the calendar is complete your preschooler can use it to mark of the days. Each day, go over the day of the week, month, date, and year with your preschooler to give them a jump on their calendar reading skills.
What You Will Need
A preprinted calendar you don't mind to cut apart, or paper to make your own calendar pages.
Poster board, or 11x17 construction paper for background
Stamps, stickers, glue, markers, scissors, crayons
How To Make It
Step 1:
Start by writing down everyone's birthday and other special events on a piece of paper.
Step 2:
Use a pre-printed calendar or make your own calendar pages. If you decide to make your own, use a ruler and measure out one-inch square boxes in a row of 7 across and 5 down (look at a calendar page). Then write in the days for that month in the correct square.
Step 3:
Glue the monthly calendar page to a larger piece of paper or poster board.
Step 4:
Use stickers or stamps to mark special occasions, such as birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, or events. Transfer these dates from your paper to the calendar.
Step 5:
Allow your preschooler and other family members to decorate the outside of the calendar page. Decorate the page with markers, stamps, stickers, or crayons.
You can do one month or the whole year.
How To Use It
Stick your family masterpiece on the wall or the side of the refrigerator. You’ll have a wonderful reminder for the important events in your life.Let your preschooler mark off the days. Review the month, date and day of the week when they're marking off the calendar.
